When we moved to Palmer in 1999 our family began a relationship with the Alaska State Fair which just started once again this week. 

 

We had such a special time with our kids doing all the fair stuff and we have many great memories. Karen led a 4-H group and the kids would raise pigs for the auction. Of course pigs go from super cute to unruly so it was always an adventure but so worthwhile we will never forget the year that Karen’s Dad parked his camper and stayed at the fair all the way through. Morning and night he would help the kids with their animals and spend the day visiting with everyone and having coffee. Grandma would bring him lunch and check in and it was a great place to take a break in the camper. Everybody enjoyed chatting with him and for years afterword would ask Karen when her Dad would come by. He had a blast!

Of course the reward for the kids was the auction Travis took his cash and put it in the bank and his mother was so proud! The other kids couldn’t spend it fast enough! Karen was on the go morning till dark doing all the fair mom stuff. Great memories to look back on and here are some pictures. Was pretty awesome looking back and remembering for Karen and I

  Classic rides like the Ferris wheel offer sweeping views of Pioneer Peak, along with fun for all ages and even helicopter tours flying out right from the fairgrounds. 
• Giant Veggie Contests:
  The Giant Cabbage and Pumpkin Weigh-Offs are returning marquee attractions—classic shows of agricultural pride and friendly competition. 
• Family & Kids’ Activities:
  The MVFCU Kid Zone delivers kids-only activities, plus roaming free performances and fun throughout the fairgrounds. On opening weekend, look out for Cirque Ma’Ceo equestrian shows, glowing reptile exhibits, and interactive contests like scarecrow decorating.
