I hope your week’s going great!
Before we jump into real estate updates, I want to share something important, something that directly impacts your home, your finances, and the people you care about most.
A while back, I came across an eye-opening article by Tayva Taylor from Alaska Law & Mediation that really stuck with me. It was a powerful reminder that estate planning isn’t just about legal paperwork, it’s about protecting the people you love.
Estate Planning Isn’t About Documents, It’s About People
Most people think estate planning means drafting a will or signing a trust. But the bigger issue is this: what actually happens to your family if something unexpected occurs?
Recent surveys show only about one-third of Americans have a will. That means the majority of families risk court involvement, delays, added expenses, and sometimes even family conflict during an already emotional time.
And here’s something I see often in real estate:
When there’s no clear plan, homes can get tied up in probate. Accounts get frozen. Bills go unpaid. Loved ones are left trying to figure out what someone “would have wanted.” That’s avoidable.
A thoughtful estate plan:
• Clarifies who makes financial and medical decisions
• Keeps property from being unnecessarily tied up
• Reduces stress and confusion
• Helps preserve family harmony
• Protects the legacy you worked hard to build
This isn’t about how much you own.
If you have a home, assets, or people who depend on you, it matters.
The Hidden Risk: Outdated Plans
Another thing Tayva highlights is something many people overlook, thinking you’re covered when you’re not. Maybe you created documents years ago. Maybe you used an online template. But laws change. Assets change. Life changes. If your plan doesn’t reflect your current situation, it may not work when it’s needed most.
Estate planning isn’t a one-time event.
It’s part of responsible ownership and long-term planning.

As your real estate advisor, my role goes beyond buying and selling homes. Your home is often one of your largest assets. Making sure it’s protected properly is just smart planning.
If you already have a plan, this might be your reminder to review it.
If you don’t have one yet, now’s a good time to start the conversation.
