Helpful Info for Anyone Affected by the Recent Wind Storm From Dave & Travis

by David Johnson

We wanted to send this out quickly because the last four weeks of heavy wind here in the Mat-Su have been rough. We’ve seen sustained high winds at times close to hurricane force and unfortunately, a lot of people have been affected.

I posted briefly about this and a good friend of mine, Brian Sherburn with Keller Williams, reached out and shared something important with me: State disaster assistance is available for wind-related damage from the December storm.

I’ll share this personally I called my insurance company and found out I have a $10,000 deductible. Like many homeowners, that makes smaller (but still necessary) repairs hard to justify. In my case, I’ve got a roof vent at the peak of the roof flopping in the wind, and I’m pretty sure I lost some roofing in another area. I haven’t even been able to get up there yet.

I spoke directly with Lea, who handles these applications, and she was incredibly helpful. From what I understand, it doesn’t matter whether you have insurance or not. If the damage was caused by the wind storm, there’s a good chance it could qualify.

This program may help cover:
  • Roof, siding, or vent damage
  • Fences or gates blown down
  • Broken windows (including car windows from fallen trees)
  • Tree or other wind-related property damage
The general process is:

1. Submit Your Application
Begin by submitting your disaster relief application. You’ll need basic documentation, which may include proof of ownership and insurance information. You can apply online or call directly if you’d like clarification before submitting.

 Call: (844) 445-7131
Use the online link below
or scan the QR code to apply.

2.  Take Photos of the Damage
Once the damage is documented, take clear photos showing all affected areas. Be sure to keep these for your records.
3. Complete the Repairs
Move forward with the necessary repairs once it’s safe to do so.
4. Submit Repair Invoices
After repairs are completed, submit your paid invoices or receipts as required to complete the process.

The application window is open through February 9, 2026, but we recommend applying sooner rather than later.

Please feel free to share this with friends, family, or neighbors who may have had damage. Even if you’re unsure, it’s worth making the call and asking.

Whether you're buying, selling, or just planning ahead, now’s a great time to chat about your options — I’m here if you need a strategy that fits your goals!
